How the flags are organized
The collection covers every sovereign country, observer states, and dependent territories and regions with their own flag. Start with the full list of flags of the world, or narrow it down by continent: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania.
If you remember only part of a flag, use the other filters. Flags by color lists the flags that use an exact set of colors, such as red and white or blue, white and red. Flags with groups flags by symbol: stars, crescents, crosses, animals and more. You can also look up a country by its first letter.
Quizzes, states and emoji
Test yourself with the flag quizzes, which cover the world, each continent and the US states. The US state flags page shows all 50 state flags, and the flag emoji page explains how emoji flags work and where they appear.
Each flag page gives the basics: colors, proportions, adoption date, the meaning of the symbols and a few facts that help you recognize it, along with look-alike flags to compare. Pages are written to be quick to scan, whether you are studying for a quiz, settling a bet or checking a design.

What is the oldest flag in the world?
Denmark's Dannebrog is generally regarded as the oldest national flag still in use. A white cross on red was used by Danish kings from the 14th century, and Guinness records it as continuously used since 1625. See Denmark.
Which flags are square?
Switzerland and Vatican City. The Swiss flag is square instead of the usual rectangle, although its civil ensign for ships is rectangular. The Vatican flag is also shown square in its law, but in 2010 a Vatican office said it does not have to be. See Switzerland and Vatican City.
